Gua Sha is a scraping method done with a rounded edge instrument like a ceramic soup spoon and massage oil. It feels like a deep tissue massage and is used to improve circulation, relieve tension and pain in muscles, break up scar tissues and adhesions in muscles and fascia, improve breathing and treat body aches associate with common cold and flu. This technique is commonly performed on the neck and shoulders but can be used anywhere on the body to relieve tension. It can produce temporary markings on the skin (petechiae), which typically go away in 3-5 days.
Cupping is an ancient modality of healing where glass cups are applied to the skin to create suction. This suction releases tension and pain in muscles and fascia, muscle knots, and swelling. It also helps stimulate detoxification, treat respiratory conditions and improve overall circulation. The cups can be applied anywhere on the body and usually stay in place for about 10-20 minutes. Similar to gua sha, they can produce temporary markings on the skin (petechiae), which typically go away in 3-5 days.
Everyone Needs a Little Love and Support
Essential oils have been used for thousands of years in medicinal capacities and more practical every day uses such as in cosmetics, cleaning products, perfumes, and lotions. They have influences not only on the olfactory system but also on the limbic system of the brain which controls basic emotions, memory, and state of mind. In our treatments we use essential oils from Young Living™ and Gem Elixirz™ to relax the mind and body and to inspire positive emotions enhancing the benefits of our acupuncture treatments.
Tuning forks have been used for over 400 years in various capacities from tuning instruments to neurological testing and fracture scanning. Here at Truvotion Health we use the planetary series tuning forks from Acutonics®. These are unique, energy-based, non-invasive tools which we like to incorporate into our Chinese medicine practice. They can be used along with the acupuncture treatments or as stand alone treatments for needle averse individuals. Their vibrations are natural harmonic sound waves based on orbital properties of the sun, moon, earth and planets. They are specifically calibrated to access acupuncture meridians.
Electro-Acupuncture (Estim) is a complementary modality used in conjunction with acupuncture to enhance therapeutic effectiveness. The Estim cords are attached to the acupuncture needles and a small electric current is run through the needles deep into the body. It has been proven to accelerate tissue healing, reduce inflammation, edema and swelling, decrease pain, treat depression, aid in weight loss and many other conditions that acupuncture is effective at treating.
