Chinese herbal medicine is a branch of Chinese medicine originated in China over 3,500 years ago. Chinese herbs are combined into formulas usually consisting of 5-15 single herbs. The formulas are designed to treat a Chinese diagnosis either in conjunction with an acupuncture treatment plan or as a stand alone modality. Most of the herbs are plants, however some are minerals and animal parts. Please let us know if you have any dietary restrictions so we can make the appropriate adjustments to your formulas.
Historically herbs were only available as whole dried parts (today referred to as raw herbs) which had to be cooked in boiling water for 45+ minutes. Today with modern technology we are able to offer herbs in many variations: raw herbs, tinctures (herbal extractions soaked in alcohol), granules (think instant coffee) and pills or tablets.
